Emma Watson Promises To Fight Against Structural Racism Following Controversy Over Her Blac

Emma Watson has also made her support of the Black Lives Matter movement very clear after getting backlash for her Blackout Tuesday posts. The Harry Potter actress shared a very powerful message about racism.

The star will not stay silent in the face of racial injustice and her message made that as obvious as possible.

Her post comes amid outrage and protests against police brutality and racism in the United States sparked by the murder of George Floyd, a 46 year old African-American man and father, at the hands of a police officer.

Emma started her message by telling the black community that ‘I stand with you. There’s so much racism, both in our past and our present, that is not acknowledged nor accounted for. White supremacy’s one of the systems of hierarchy and dominance, exploitation and oppression, that’s tightly stitched into society. As a white person, I’ve benefited from this.’

She went on to say that ‘We need to work hard externally to actively tackle the structural and institutional racism all around us. I am still learning about the many ways I unconsciously support and uphold a system that’s structurally racist.’

To conclude her letter, the British actress stressed that she would be using her online platforms to keep sharing useful links to resources that she herself had used to educate herself and research the bitter reality of racial injustice in America.

This post comes after she also got some criticism over her Blackout Tuesday posts which were labeled by some as the ‘worst’ they had seen.

The whole idea was to share one black square to one’s timeline but Emma shared three and also put a white border around them like she does with all her IG posts.

As a result, some slammed her for trying to fit the movement into her ‘Instagram aesthetic.’

She did get defended by most of her fans who pointed out that Watson had dedicated her whole life fighting for feminism and minority rights so it was just mind blowing that an actual ally was getting hated on for something like that.
